Sarah Lailson
Sarah Lailson’s practice is rooted in an exploration of the shared human condition, examining how internal systems—particularly the nervous system and the mind—shape the way we experience and move through the world. Her work interrogates the tension between the conscious mind’s will and the body’s instinctive responses, revealing a quiet yet persistent dialogue between control and surrender. Within this space, she turns her focus toward the most intimate and unguarded regions of the psyche, drawing attention to the fragile, often overlooked crevices where vulnerability resides.
She works across a variety of mediums, with a current focus on printmaking, including intaglio and relief techniques. She is especially drawn to relief processes such as woodcut and linoleum block printing, where the physical act of carving plays a central role. For Sarah, carving is not just a step in the process, but a way of capturing energy, movement, and intention. The final prints hold onto these marks, allowing the viewer to feel the presence of the process as much as the image itself.
